The end of global demand for canvas sails and decline in interest on rope certainly put a dent in hemp production but it isn't whole story. Many argue that after polyester and nylon came on the scene the actual 1950s, that marked closing "nail on coffin" for your hemp scene. But if that was the case, why didn't cotton, another natural fibre, suffer comparable fate?
